I really don't mind the grey skies the overcast weather, the intermittent drizzle or hard showers, the cold, the damp and what for many is the drudge of winter. What I do hate though, is getting up before the sun, coming home in the dark and the shortness of the days.  The new daylight savings seem to have only made it worse. It's 10am already and the photosensor on the garden light has only just gone off. If we were back to the way it was last year the light would still have just gone off but it would be 9am! If ever there was a presidential decision that personally affected me, it was this one!

Ok, the decision to attack a bunch of goat herders in Afghanistan affected me, and the sabre rattling before entering Iraq affected me, and the ultimate decision to pretend like there is nothing going on in Central Southern Africa affects me, but those affect lots of people and they are decisions that I barely understood whilst they were being made. This daylight savings though, what a load of crap!

I am sorry, but that is also a load of crap. It is irrelevant what time of day it is, if it is dark, people will have their lights on, if it is cold, people will have the heating on. There was another agenda, we just don't know what it was....

In 1907 when this whole concept was conjured up, industry was not a 24 hour business, these days it more or less is, especially if you are bringing your manufactured goods in from China so the whole argument that messing with the hours of business is a load of bunk. there is no clear evidence that electricity will be saved by the extra DST introduced in 2007, and apparently though one utility did report a decrease in March 2007, five others did not. DST may increase gas consumption: U.S. gasoline demand grew an extra 1% during the newly introduced DST in March 2007 - go figure Mr President...

Having grown up in a part of the world where daylight savings was discontinued before I even realized such a thing existed the whole concept is surreal and bizarre and aggravated particularly since I have to stay up until some god forsaken hour to change my clocks - the insanity of it!

Join me in a crusade for 'down with daylight savings' it an archane and crude attempt to counterract a global phenomenon and should be stopped dead.
