16th-Dec-2007 08:00 am - I am Legend
SISTERS
So my Saturday was a bust, despite my request of  [info]autumnthingto setup JEBJ's appointment earlier in the day she stuck with noon guns and of course we arrived late...

Later in the day I was informed that she was planning to rattle around the house all day and that in the evening I was to be expected to attend to JEBL whilst she was packing - yeah right! What that actually meant was, Autumnthing time to play on the internet. At 8pm he went down ok, the merry little soul, having made din dins for him and autumnthing for which there was nary a please or a thank you. Undoubtedly it was disgusting fare as I have been told in the past that I am a craptabulous cook.

I went out to I am Legend, it is not everyone's cup of tea and certainly i didnt really have any clear expectations of what to expect. The story was conceptually interesting,  hardly a suprise, it is a rehash,  I Am Legend is a 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson about the last man alive on the planet Earth.  This version modifies the premise slightly and doesnt explicitly make the Night Stalkers vampires, just meat eaters!

The special effects with CGI and probably models etc were very good, though the rendering of the lions made them look a little mangey. The mutants were ok, though the whole thing seemed a little far fetched until I realized that the Koreans have just genetically modified some cats to phosphoresce. All this leads one to believe that they may well indeed come up with some sort of neutralizer of things like cancer. The movie had an interesting quotable quote. Think of cancer as a bad person driving a really fast car... next roadside stop...genetic armageddon.

SISTERS
I t took me an hour to get home yesterday, nothing particularly exceptional going on on the roads but it nonetheless took that long. You have to figure that means that I was averaging 7.1Mph - that is terrible!!!! I don't think the people coming from even montlake terrace go that slow!

Anyhow, we had a most interesting afternoon of it, now it appears that there is a minor anxiety attack striking certain people on the scheduling of work, nothing I can do about that per se but I do feel that the developers are ducking and diving like there is no tomorrow.

I spoke with a friend working up at the silver bird factory in Everett and they were telling me horror stories about some of the things that they have to deal with - astonishing - from sexual harrassment to just plain downright stupidity.

I had the opportunity to rant about BR again and the person on the other end listened very patiently, I was suprised. Then they started ranting on about their brother who has a phd in 14th religioun but can't seem to hold down a proper job! I wonder why.... I suggested he become a priest - too late - he is married and apparently married into it!

KJL's brother-in-law has abandoned his acting career it appears and will return to Seattle, apparently he and the little family will resettle - it seems odd to me that someone who has made a successful online business doing permits for commerce and enterprise and employs a dozen people should be so concerned about being a major thespian  - he spends more than 12 hours a day on his enterprise anyway and that industry all hinges on timing and contacts - obviously he failed on both counts.

I went to see No Country for Old Men has my current unfavorite actor Javier Bardem he is undoubtedly a good actor, I just don't like him. I really enjoy   Tommy Lee Jones as an actor but not in a fatherly, brotherly or admiring kind of a way, he comes across as very dour and hard-assed which is cool, also those puffy eyes -eugh! Anyhow, he plays a good cameo in this movie, the script was a bit disjointed though but there were some really interesting vignettes. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it VERY disturbing!

BLIND
Still not much relief from the scapula pain but such is life, it was a late crash last night, young JEBJ was still up after midnight poor little thing and then he awoke in misery at 4am this morning.

Went to see Love in the time of Cholera with Javier Bardem, a pretty start studded cast from english and foreign language movies and a period drama based on a book by Gabriel García Márquez

Some keyboard pals were just posting a picture of their goodbye cake for work, which suggested their jobs had been outsourced to india and along comes  the movie outsourced, talk about coincidence.

Although it was bitterly cold last night, it seems not so bad today although there's a sombre melancholy bunch of clouds hanging over the mountains.

Oracle
So I succumbed and went out.

Well I just got back from Gee's after having had dinner with Nagesh I have concluded that there is hope for us all!

He is a nice chap but very particular and even more confused than I am, there was also some neuroses about going up and down hills in the car; very odd.

I got to meet the babies today too which was fun, they are very roly poly pups though  not spring chickens anymore.

Gee dished up beans, turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy and prefaced it with a delicious goat cheese, shitake mushroom, pomegranate salad. We drank way too much wine, well not really, one of the bottles was the splendid Moselland arsvitis Riesling kabinett 2006 from costco, a cracker for less than nine bucks, and a not half bad bottle too.

Froze my nads off on the way home, it must be like well below freezing my muscles were so spasmed and my teeth chattering so much!

I just pulled a couple of items from the wardrobe some shirts that are fraying on the collars and some trousers that are wearing thin as well as some knits that have shrunk in the dryer.

A quick gander at Night Watch (Nochnoy Dozor) and then I am off to be for beauty.

NUDE
I didn't go in today, worked virtually. Or is that, virtually worked....?

We were told yesteday that we were moving offices again, 4th time in 6 months, this time out to Woodinville. I couldn't be arsed to find the map,  I will likely do it Friday. At any rate, there is apparently plenty of space and although no cafeteria the offices are well appointed.

That said, working virtually worked today, there weren't any meetings and no-one pretty much was in office, the St Louis boys were all out of town. Brian called and had some questions which I answered, or was it an IM, I forget and then there was a volley of emails between he, myself and Rick. In the end we concluded it was all to be resolved through enhanced BP's , not something we want to have to handle programatically.

I went to COSTCO changed out some items I bought and was really suprised to see that there were so few customers, odd, I thought there would be more.  I picked up this splendid wine for less than ten bucks too and nearly polished the whole bottle off.

Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages 2006 750ML  - This brilliant garnet wine is bright and fresh, with ripe, supple crushed strawberry flavors underscored by zesty nuances of peppercorns, gentle tannins and a clean acidity, finishing on a succulent, refreshing note

When i got home i realized I still had the Regal gift card from the previous week so I checked out what was on, online and determined that the only thing on, that I wanted to see, was HITMAN, with this guy Timothy Olyphant  as Agent 47. Based on the computer game HITMAN, it was a disappointment. The film was filled with gratuitous violence and poor acting, the plot was obscure and confusing and some of the actors just altogether horrible.  It would have been ok if there had been at least a little scenery but you basically only got some views of an orthodox church being damaged by a helicopter gunship and some views of the twin spires of Istanbul.  If you  have $7.50 to burn, go see it but don't say i didn't warn you. Olyphant is an interesting actor, he is only a couple of years younger than me, in the movie walks like a ramp model, appears to have skinny legs but well enough developed arm muscles. His shaved head is pretty decent looking but the whole sub theme of skinhead assasins with barcode tattoos, is well, just incredibly implausible. Especially when 5 of them are duking it out in a railway carriage with guns and swords. Olyphant could be the next Dirty Harry though, he has those Clint Eastwood looks and even that CE yawl.

Eugene called whilst I was in the movies, I called him back and we had a natter for some time about the Zim situation, I told him I would see what I could find out, he would do the same.

Harold emailed me, he has a dealer that may be prepared to do some $ deals, I need to find out more information first.
